The five obstructions torrent

Storyline Edit. An investigative journey into the phenomenon of "documentary", based on manifestos written by each director. Acclaimed director Lars Von Trier challenges his creative mentor to a diabolical game: Deconstruct cinema, reinvent cinema. Push the limits through torturous obstructions. Did you know Edit. This, apparently, is within the rules of the game played out by the two directors during the documentary, and serves as an inside joke.

Connections Edited from Det perfekte menneske User reviews 37 Review. Top review. It is true that in recent times, documentary film as a genre has been popularized by American director Michael Moore.

However, most documentary films are neither made for nor understood by ordinary viewers. Danish film "The Five Obstructions" is a documentary film which truly represents this rule. What is important to watch is the manner in which both directors appreciate each other's genius. It is the viewer who decides which director is the best. A serious film student can learn a lot by watching how some of Lars Von Trier's challenges have elevated cinema's status as a 'serious art'.

As a puzzle about cinema and the possibilities it offers to make an honest comment about people and the art of cinema,The Five Obstructions is an interesting albeit serious watch for all viewers who believe that cinema is not always synonymous with entertainment. Box office Edit. Technical specs Edit. First and foremost, it is a person study. I have never seen a documentary this new-thinking and original. Usually documentaries depicts a subject, this is a portray of a man and his work…. Lars Von Trier tortures his personal hero, because of course he does. My patience for LVT's brand of self-righteous bullshit is always thin, but there's something compellingly upfront about his impishness here. When he challenges Leth to remake his movie with no shot lasting longer than 12 frames, the other director's resultant movie, at once avant-garde and thoroughly coherent, is so exciting and watchable than Von Trier visibly looks upset to have actually inspired Leth.

It's also a wry touch that one of his "obstructions" is total freedom, which he actually administers as a punishment for failing to follow other rules to his satisfaction. It's a blunt but nonetheless well-made point about the necessity of limitations on art, and if….

Review by Robert Franco. The fact that six versions of the same film even exist, and that each is so vastly different, and that the entire thing stems from an interplay between two equally insane directors is crazy. It kind of peaks with the first two obstructions, but a wonderful experiment no less. Can you believe we almost lived in a world where Von Trier did this with Martin Scorsese? God, we should get one of these every few years!
