Stereo speaker setup

The image will seem vague or diffuse, there will be a noticeable lack of bass, and the treble may be harsh. The aforementioned M60ti owner used the spikes at the front of his speakers to tilt the speakers back a bit. Scroll to continue reading. Pulling floorstanding speakers out from the wall behind-you have to experiment with this-and having them unencumbered by large furniture at either side will usually aid in enhancing the 3-dimensionality of the image, especially if there are some walls to the left and right of the speaker locations they do not have to be close.

Toeing your speakers in a bit will reduce this phenomenon. You can often place bookshelf speakers surprisingly close to the wall behind as little as a few inches with no negative effects on sound quality.

Likewise, if you wall-mount bookshelf speakers using the FMB bracket , they are immune to bass coloration from the wall behind. If you were facing the corner, the left speaker would not fire toward you but straight out from the wall; the same would apply to the right speaker.

Hi Paul. Hi Nick, Here is my question to to you I want to connect some mini deck speakers to a stereo receiver to play records. The speaker cables consist of one wire with a RCA type plug low frequency and one bare end wire for high frequency.

My receiver has the phono preamp. It has tape record and play jacks. Do I put 1 left low frequency cable into tape play jack left and the high frequency bare wire into the left screw lug and tighten. Same for the right side. Do I have this right? This is option one. Will I be successful? Thanks Ron. Hi Nick, My stackable stereo was originally set up by a professional to play from wired speakers throughout the house.

Please, can you explain how to set this up? Ok so im trying to hook up an old sharp cd player to my tv. Was wondering if it could play the sound thru my cd player from my tv as a home surround sound system but not sure what I will need if it will. It has only and audio out put and a phono jack Not sure what it is used for like headphones …please help.

We had a 5-disc changer on it before and it worked fine. Please can you tell me what the optical terminal is for on my CD player? And where would it do to. Many thanks indeed, like from everyone of your other readers above have expressed, for a most illuminating article on the subject. My TV is also connected to my stereo system so that I am able to n play TV programs through my Speakers when I want to and obviously get much clearer sound.

Help, my husband wants to use his old speakers that connect with three prongs yellow, white and red. Does he need to scrap the speakers they are hooked up to the TV and sound great! I have seen these new, portable digital audio players — DAP — that have a 3. Is the voltage output high enough to act as a source to the receiver? Awesome job Nick. Thanks in advance. This was awesome. I have beautiful marble speakers, a tub amp, a cd player, and a Denon stereo amplifier mulit zone unit.

I am thinking that the Denon was part of my in wall unit and I wont need it for this set up. Is that correct?? When I add a turntable, will I need to add a pre-amp? Thank you! I have an old Marantz amplifier model number MA We also have a Marantz turntable and Marantz cassette deck. We have a Technics cd player. We have JBL speakers.

It all worked really well until about a year ago, when the amplifier stopped working. In your opinion is it worth trying to get an old amplifier repaired or should we just buy a new one. The amplifier is about 30 years old. If you think we should buy a new one, can you recomment one.

I have a Yamaha RX Tuner and on the back it has a selector switch. How do I hook the hdmi cables? And how should I connect the for best sound? I bought it for playing HDCDs on a carousel. Nick, this was one of the most comprehensible posts on getting my old stereo system reconfigured which includes a Harmon Kardon tape deck, Denon receiver and Teac CD player along with a new turntable that I received as a gift. The turntable will be on an adjacent wall unit as it needs the extra room for opening the lid.

Do you agree with my decision? The speakers will be placed on top of each of the units. Thanks for giving such great advice to everyone!!! Hello Nick! How to connect a technics sa-g67 av receiver to a Sony s. Lovely to see so many people getting their tech woes fixed on this thread. May I ask about hooking up a cassette deck to my system. However my cassette deck is now kaput. It was connected with a ribbon lead designated as the tape input on the amp.

Can I run to the other spare video aux socket on the amp? Many thanks Angela. I have an onkyo stereo and all i want is to hook speakers to it. I cannot get them to play. I have tested the speaker wire and its good. But when i hook them to stereo i get no sound. I have a Kenwood equalizer and a kr receiver and car speakers and wires I need help hooking it up.

Any ideas,???? I can send you pics of my system if you like!! Most Regards,. My first question is. Which speakers would you suggest for 5. The closest radio stations are miles away. Please advise. Thank you!!! Hi Nick, I bought a home that has whole house audio speakers installed in 6 rooms. The only connection point is two sets of banana plug female connections in the wall of a closet. How do I connect a receiver to power the system and play some music throughout the house?

I recently moved and am trying to get my Technics SD -S system to work again. I set it up and had all components working tuner, tapedeck, CD player and turntable. I tested all and they worked fine. The next day , I tried playing a CD and the sound quit after about 5 minutes. I even had my amplifer checked by a local stereo store and they found no problems. I have tried connecting my speakers Klipsch speakers to both ports A and B and nothing.

Is it possible that the speaker wire is bad? I even tried cutting off the older ends and starting with a fresh end but to no avail. Can you suggest something? I have an old technics boombox SA C Hi Nick! Is there any help you can give me? Thank you for this site! I am trying to hook up a system for my husband since he has been hospitalized most of the year and had surgeries. I know he would enjoy hearing music as his hearing has been damaged, and the tones coming off the TV are not enough.

I am really interested in playing vinyl of listening to radio. Thank you in advance. Nick, who is my Son, has not worked for me for years, and no one was checking this site. I just discovered all of these requests for assistance and I am answering some. I assume by now you are hooked up and running, but if not, let me know.

That is a nice stack of equipment that you have listed, and I hope you are getting some use from it. Sorry for having left you hanging with no reply. Yes I got how to hook up my CD to my receiver and the speakers. But I also have a vintage reel to reel and equalizer I have no clue what goes where. Can u help me? These all have HDMi ports as well as optical and coax inputs. I know this is wrong but not sure which to favour and which to remove.

Have you set up one of these amps? Hi Nick, Im new to audio component systems…have some equipment id like to hookup…but have no manuals. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I cant figure where the inputs from the amplifier connect to the preamp. External processer? Main 1? Main 2? Thanks Jay. Why are you using 2 wires per post? I am lost for words ……. I wanted to add a Logitech Bluetooth adapter so I can play music from my phone.

How do I connect it. I would like to operate each system — independently thru a single set of speakers. Is there a relay device or anything else I could use to switch from one set of components to the other? Someone suggested simply doubling up the wires from both sets onto the speakers…. If I purchase the Technics turntable, do I need to purchase a pre-amp, too? Thanks so much for your help!! Now where do i put the other set of speakers in? That amplifier is not designed to run 2 pairs of speakers, and doing so may cause damage to the amplifier.

Suggestion to correct the scratchy sounds? Connie, It is likely the CD player is on its way out. Have you tried the discs in your car, or on another machine to see how they sound? If they sound good there, check to see what input the CD player is connected to on the back of the Pioneer, make sure it is not plugged where it should not be. Sometimes the input circuit on the receiver goes bad, and connecting to another one will clear the problem up.

I needed to include a Logitech Bluetooth connector so I can play music from my telephone. How would I associate it. Any help? Thank you, however I seem to have an older model.

The cables to connect each system are wide, each of the playing systems has system 1 2 orn3 on the back and the amp has all 3. Its got the line out av on the cd player. The speaker have on wire coming out the back and the stereo has Four slide the wires in and then push up the clip and it locks it in two are black and two are Red for the Left and Right can you please help me figure this out are do I have to buy speakers with the same set up as the receiver.

I found these tips very helpful because I setup my stereo system first time. I got some good alpine speakers. Wonderful experience. Thanks for sharing these helpful tips for setting up the stereo system quickly.

This is my first time so I am extremely excited. My coder is trying to persuade me to move to. I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses. I have heard fantastic things about blogengine. Is there a way I can transfer all my wordpress posts into it?

Any kind of help would be really appreciated! Two for LF and two foe HF. My built in speakers just have two connections. Can I just link the two blacks terminals on the amplifier and the two reds as well? Thanks for the great explanation above. Had this all set up way back when, just not sure of the sequence that is needed.

Buy a phono preamp — a phono preamp is compact, usually about the size of a deck of cards. You hook up your turntable to the phono preamplifier and then hook up the preamplifier to an input on any receiver. Roland Seal March 7, at AM. Hello Nick. Yuki October 28, at AM.
